Solent Sexual Health Services have launched a Summer Health Advice Guide (SHAG)

Written by admin on Thursday 16th August 2018

The Summer Health Advice Guide (S.H.A.G) provides young people with access information about sexual health services available during the Summer break and leading up to fresher’s weeks.

S.H.A.G is a digital advice guide targeted at under 25 year olds living in Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton.

The S.H.A.G contains key information around:

  • Access to condoms
  • Access to EHC (Emergency Contraception)
  • Consent
  • What to do if they have any unprotected sex
  • How to avoid pregnancy
  • How to avoid STIs
  • Other FAQs

The guide has been designed and written based on feedback from young people themselves and is accessible online here: www.letstalkaboutit.nhs.uk/summer

Solent Sexual Health Services will be running a Facebook advert enabling them to target by age and location promoting the guide. They will also be posting daily content via their social media channels – the campaign hashtag is #hashshag

What do you need to do?

As Solent Sexual Health Services will be raising awareness of access to EHC and condoms in Pharmacies and GPs, you may see an increase in enquires into your service.

If you are providing EHC, here are some extra steps you should take:

      • Refer clients at most risk of poor sexual health, especially under 18’s into Solent Sexual Health Services
      • Verbal and written advice on the avoidance of STIs and the use of regular contraceptive methods, including advice on the use of condoms, will be provided to the client.
This includes provision of a condom pack to all clients under 25, irrelevant of whether they have a C Card or not. All advice should include a referral to a service that can provide treatment and further advice and care.

If you find any of the information about your service to be incorrect, please let Solent Sexual Health Services know by reply.

If you require any of the Solent Sexual Health Service cards for signposting, or you are a 'Get it On Pharmacy' provider and require more condoms, please contact the team at solentsexualhealthpromotion@solent.nhs.uk or telephone 0300 123 6604
