Opportunity for access to funded Independent Prescribing courses

Written by AlisonFreemantle on Friday 4th February 2022

Health Education England (HEE) has published details on their initial offer of funded Independent Prescribing (IP) courses for pharmacists

Following on from NHSE&I’s announcement back in November that the Pharmacy Integration Programme would invest up to £15.9 million over the next four years to boost pharmacy professional career development. The initial cohort of funded IP course places are now available and are suitable for pharmacists who are already in a position to apply and meet the eligibility criteria and where applicable, have agreement from their employer to apply for this funding.

Pharmacists who are not yet in a position to apply, are encouraged to prepare to apply for the main round of funded IP training that will be available from Autumn 2022.

Read more about the opportunity on the HEE website

Pharmacists applying must demonstrate:

  • The support of an identified designated medical practitioner (DMP) or designated prescribing practitioner (DPP)
  • An appropriate placement arranged for practice-based learning
  • Evidence they meet the Course eligibility criteria (applicants will be subject to their chosen course enrolment processes)
  • Commitment to use the skill for the delivery of NHS services as they emerge.

How to apply

Provision will be allocated on a first come, first served basis (with complete application) direct with the university.

Some course providers have a minimum and/or maximum cohort number for a course to run. If maximum number is reached a course may close to applications ahead of their deadline.
