UPDATE: Telephone MURs approval process

Written by admin on Friday 5th June 2020

The NHS South East Region have published updated guidance on the process for community pharmacies requesting approval for telephone MURs

The South East Regional team are aware of the difficulties that community pharmacies are having with respect to delivery of MURs during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been very decent in making the best response they can to our request to facilitate the whole 'remote' MUR issue.

The following message was recently sent by the NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) South East Regional Team:

Dear Colleagues,

Please see the attached process (below) that community pharmacies should follow to obtain approval for telephone MURs.

Please note that the Pharmacy Manual suggests we allow 15 days for this process, however we have decided that we are able to provide a decision in three working days, assuming that each application is compliant with the attached process.

The national team have informed us that we are not able to vary the secretary of state directions with respect to patient consent, so this remains a requirement, and is likely to be subject to post payment verification processes or checks during contract monitoring visits (assuming we will be able to do so in the future).

Regards
