Severe Winter Weather Warning in the South

Written by admin on Thursday 7th December 2017

Cold, wintry weather is expected across the county over the next few days, with some snow showers possible

Please remember:

1.Look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold and ensure they have access to warm food and drinks and are managing to heat their homes adequately.

2.Try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18C, this is particularly important for people who are not mobile, have long term illness or are 65 or over.

3.Stay tuned for weather forecasts, ensure that vulnerable friends, neighbours and relatives are stocked with food and medications in advance, have deliveries or can ask a friend to help.

Please also note the attached PHE Action card, which explains and supports the planning of services, helps to protect patients, clients, users and staff during periods of severe weather. The weather warnings are given at variable levels (from Level 1 to Level 4) depending on the probability and associated risks:
  • Level 1 – Winter Preparedness
  • Level 2 – Alert and Readiness
  • Level 3 – Severe Weather Action
  • Level 4 – National Emergency

Organisations actions required will be dependant on the level of alert
