Recognising the symptoms of Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate. There are approximately 1.4 million people in the UK with AF; people with AF are at increased risk of a stroke.

How to monitor heart rate and rhythm

A simple pulse check can help keep an eye on heart rate. Baseline pulse and normal rhythm

can be measured first thing in the morning and before going to bed. This is known as resting heart rate. A resting heart rate should beat evenly, like the ticking of a clock, with 60 to 100 beats per minute (bmp).
