REMINDER - Diabetes Hypoglycaemia Development event

Written by admin on Friday 28th September 2018

All West Hampshire pharmacists and technicians are invited to this excellent event to further cement learning following the delivery of the 'Diabetes Hypoglycaemia Support Pack' to every pharmacy earlier this summer

There's still time to book in and attend this high quality local event that will help further develop your knowledge and skills and build on the technical content of the support pack to enable practical application of knowledge when talking to people at risk of hypoglycaemic events.

There are two dates and venues to choose from. Please book onto your preferred venue and encourage colleagues and peers to attend with you.

Dates and venues available are:

Wednesday 10th October - Holiday Inn Eastleigh

Tuesday 16th October - Balmer Lawn Hotel, Brockenhurst, New Forest

Please click the link above to book using the 'Eventbrite' link provided on the respective calendar pages.

Speakers on the night are from:

  • Pharmacy Complete
  • West Hampshire Community Diabetes Service
  • West Hampshire CCG
  • University Hospital Southampton - Dept of Diabetes & Endocrinology

The hypoglycaemia resource pack for pharmacists, pharmacy teams and people with diabetes was delivered to every West Hampshire community pharmacy and is a valuable dip-in resource for the whole team to use and will help drive down the risk of hypoglycaemia for people visiting your pharmacies.

The specific learning outcomes for the evening event are:
  • introduction to the competency framework for pharmacists in diabetes
  • confidence in the recognition, prevention and management of hypoglycaemia
  • understand the local context for management and support for hypoglycaemia
  • when and where to refer an individual at risk of or having episodes of hypoglycaemia
  • how to engage with a patient about hypoglycaemia
  • how to build on the HLP concept to promote hypoglycaemia awareness
  • share experiences to learn from each other
  • participants to include this continuing professional development as a revalidation entry

There is an expectation that participants have read the Hypo Support Pack before attending and have started to engage with their patients and customers about hypoglycaemia.

Finally, if you haven't already filled in our online survey monkey, we would very much appreciate if you could do this for us now. We aim to evaluate the results for people pre-training that have not used the pack extensively and then again post training following greater awareness of its content and use.
