Allergy Test & Treat Service available to Pharmacies in Hampshire & Isle of Wight

Allergy affects many people in the UK; about 1 in 4 adults, 1 in 6 teenagers and 1 in 10 children are affect by allergy. Almost half of all patients with allergy symptoms have not had a formal diagnosis from a doctor and even fewer patients know what allergen or allergens they react to. Some patients might not even be aware that the symptoms they are experiencing are caused by an allergy.
Since 1923, ALK (manufacturer of Jext®) have been involved in the treatment of allergy. In recent years, they have invested substantially in the research and development of new, evidence-based allergy immunotherapy treatments. By collecting information and solutions together in one place, they want to make allergy simple to manage. ALK’s consumer division Klarify have created an allergy test kit which screens for 294 allergens specific to IgE including pets, pollen, food & drinks, mites & insect bites.
The test kits can be sold online & in pharmacy as OTC or they can be used as part of a Test & Treat pharmacy service offered FREE* to pharmacies in Community Pharmacy South Central (CPSC) that sign up by 20/03/22. The benefit to pharmacies providing the service is the PharmaDoctor e-Tool will make treatment suggestions, including a range of PGDs supplied as part of the service package, the PGDs cannot be used by anyone self-testing at home.
At present, patients in England are waiting on average more than 12 months for a GP referral to hospital consultation. By providing the pharmacy based Allergy Test & Treat service the test will analyse the patient’s reaction to over 290 allergens and return results via the PharmaDoctor e-Tool within 2 weeks.
