National Pharmacy Contraception Supply Service (PCS) Launch

Written by AlisonFreemantle on Friday 21st April 2023

Further details about the service

**If you are a Pilot pharmacy in Portsmouth please refer to email sent on Thursday 20th April**

This service is for the ongoing supply of oral contraception (both combined and POP) via a PGD.

Pharmacies are able to register to deliver the service on MYS from Monday 24th April. Only register on MYS once you are ready to provide the service and have completed all the training and have a SOP in place.

Pharmacist training summary can be found here: Training Summary

What IT system to use?

Both PharmOutcomes and Cegedim have a service module available.

Information on those pharmacies that have registered on MYS will be sent to PharmOutcomes three times a week. PharmOutcomes will use this report to accredit pharmacies on their systems. There may be a few days between registering on MYS and seeing the module on PharmOutcomes.

Cegedim customers will automatically have access to the service module from Monday, but you must register on MYS if you want to get paid!

Both IT companies have a demonstration video for the service.

Promoting the Service

NHS England will be producing some posters for Pharmacies to use. Here is a pharmacy poster and GP surgery poster I have created from the pilot posters used in Portsmouth which can be used until the NHS England ones are ready.

CPSC will be letting the ICB/ GP Surgeries and Solent Sexual Health Services know who is registered to deliver so they will be able to signpost patients to you. Some patients may present with a text message they have received from either service directing them to you.

CPSC Webpage

All documents (service specification, PGDs, training summary, posters) can be found on the Pharmacy Contraception Service page of the website. https://cpsc.org.uk/professionals/nhs-contract/advanced/pharmacy-contraception-service-pcs

As pharmacies sign up the map and list will become available.
