Community Pharmacies Face Increased Pressure as Business Rate Rise Announced for April 2026

Urgent action is needed to safeguard the future of the community pharmacy sector
The government has confirmed a significant increase in business rates scheduled for April 2026—a change that is expected to place further financial strain on already stretched community pharmacies. The National Pharmacy Association has warned that this rise could drive many pharmacies “to the brink of collapse” without swift and meaningful government support.
In response to these concerns, and following a recommendation from our Committee, Community Pharmacy HIOW has written to all Members of Parliament across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Our message is clear: urgent action is needed to safeguard the future of the community pharmacy sector and the vital services it provides.
To support a united effort, we have also created a letter template that pharmacy owners can personalise and send to their local MP. We strongly encourage all contractors to make use of it. Coordinated engagement at both local and national levels will amplify our collective voice and increase the likelihood of achieving the protections and reforms our sector desperately needs.
Thank you for your ongoing dedication to community pharmacy and the patients we serve.
