Glaucoma UK are trialling some online training sessions for pharmacy staff.

Pharmacies play an important role in the care of glaucoma, and that queries relating to glaucoma and eye drops may increasingly be finding their way to pharmacies, due to capacity in the GP and hospital systems.

The training is provided free of charge, along with a box of eye drop dispensing aids and resources – all Glaucoma UK are asking for in return is honest feedback on the training so that they can get it right to roll it out more widely across the UK.

The training will cover what glaucoma is, common challenges people face with administering eye drops and ideas for troubleshooting these, other glaucoma treatments, and where staff can go for more support if they are unsure how to help customers with glaucoma. Research has shown that more than 50% of people with glaucoma do not take their eye drops as prescribed, and this could be leading to avoidable vision loss from glaucoma.

Training sessions are currently planned for:

  • Monday 2nd October 1pm – 2pm
  • Tuesday 3rd October 10.30am – 11.30am
  • Monday 9th October 7pm – 8pm
  • Tuesday 19th October 9am – 10am

There are 50 spaces available, these will be offered on a first come first served basis.
