ALERT: Beware of Cyber crime

Please be aware of the constant risk in receiving phishing scam emails that purport to be from respected organisations. Read more for further advice....

One of our contractors recently shared with us an email supposedly sent by NHS England - Wessex. In the email were various links to reply or seek more information that attempt to trick you into allowing download of potentially damaging software. Unfortunately, the email was not from NHS England at all.

By closer inspection of the actual email address of the sender; it was possible to identify that the message was not coming from the NHSE Wessex email account, it was just made to look that way by using a very similar address.

We at CPSC get regular emails, most of them put instantly into a junk folder by our security systems, that purport to come from people we know.

As criminals get ever more sophisticated, their tricks can become harder to spot. CPSC believe it is important that everyone is constantly on their guard and ensuring they have the best defensive software that they can find, installed on their hardware.

There is guidance online on what to do about these classic phishing scams if you wish to research further. We recommend all contractors review their security processes in order to protect their hardware and software systems.
